Barrie Police investigating stolen donation box

The Barrie Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect following the theft of a donation box on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017.

Video surveillance captured a suspect stealing a box of donations for “Make a Wish Canada” from outside a residence on Violet Street, in the City of Barrie. The home is known for its holiday display of 30,000 plus lights, and a donation box which has been situated outside the home, each year, to collectdonations for the “Make a Wish Canada” charity.

The suspect was captured on video scoping out the home around 3 a.m., and approximately 40 minutes later he returns and removes the box from the tree, and flees the area. The box had been secured with aircraft cable and it is believed he returned with a tool(s) to specifically cut the cable. 

The investigation is ongoing.
