Barrie man facing impaired charge after traffic stop

A 23-year-old Barrie man is charged with Over 80 following a traffic stop in Bradford.

On Friday, Aug. 16, 2019 around 1:20 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer pulled over a vehicle on Barrie Street. The driver failed a roadside screening device test and further breath test readings resulted in a charge of Over 80 for a 23-year-old Barrie man.

He was also charged with being a G1 driver unaccompanied by a qualified driver and a G1 driver out at unlawful hour. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

There are several restrictions for G1 drivers including:

  • You must not drive if you have been drinking alcohol. Your blood-alcohol level must be zero.
  • You must not drive alone; an accompanying driver must sit in the front passenger seat.
  • You must not drive between midnight and 5 a.m.
  • Each person in the vehicle must have a working seatbelt.
  • You must not drive on 400-series highways with a posted speed limit over 80 km/h.

Also, you must not drive on certain high-speed roads including the Queen Elizabeth Way, Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway in the Greater Toronto Area, the E.C. Row Expressway in Windsor and the Conestoga Parkway in Kitchener-Waterloo. However, if your accompanying driver is a driving instructor, you may drive on any road.
