Barrie man facing criminal charges following fail to remain

TOWNSHIP OF ESSA - At approximately 9:05 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, Ontario Provincial Police, Nottawasaga Detachment, received a report of a single motor vehicle crash on 20th Sideroad, at the intersection of County Road 56, Essa Township.

A witness to the crash advised that while he was travelling westbound on 20th Sideroad, he was overtaken by another westbound vehicle at a high rate of speed. The passing vehicle then lost control as it travelled through the intersection at County Road 56. The vehicle came to rest in the ditch at the southwest corner of the intersection. The driver then fled into the bush prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, leaving behind two injured  passengers.

One of the female passengers of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The Central Region Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) assisted Nottawasaga Detachment personnel with a ground search which had negative results.

The accused, Stefon Aifaro, a 24-year-old Barrie man turned himself in to the Nottawasaga Detachment at approx. 6:30 p.m., on Sunday Oct. 7, 2018.

He has been charged with multiple criminal driving offences and will make a court appearance on Nov. 15, 2018.
