Barrie cyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in Highway 124 collision

MAGNETAWAN - On Sunday, June 17, 2018 at approximately 9 a.m. members of the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment investigated a motor vehicle collision on Highway 124 involving a cyclist.

Police investigation revealed that a vehicle was travelling eastbound on the Highway 124 when it stuck an eastbound cyclist, causing her to land in the south side ditch.

The cyclist, June Bell, 70 of Barrie, Ont. was taken to hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle left the scene.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. police located the vehicle and driver in Parry Sound and arrested and charged Darren Miller, 54 of Barrie, Ont. with fail to stop at scene of accident causing bodily harm, contrary to section 252(1.2) and dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing bodily harm, contrary to section 249(3) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused is being held in police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Monday June 18, 2018 in Parry Sound, Ont.
