The South Simcoe Police Service has made an arrest in a break-and-enter investigation where tools stolen from construction sites in Innisfil and Barrie were being sold online.

Two of the break and enters occurred last Tuesday and Wednesday in the Highway 400 and Highway 89 area of Innisfil. The victims discovered their stolen tools were being sold online and called police.

The investigation led to the identification of a suspect in the Innisfil break and enters along with another break-in and one theft in Barrie.

On Tuesday, June 22, 2021, the SSPS Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a home in Alliston. One man was arrested and a quantity of stolen property was recovered.

As a result of the investigation, 20-year-old Nathan Kloosterman of Alliston, was charged with the following:
    •    two counts - break and enter
    •    two counts - theft under $5,000
    •    one count - theft over $5,000
    •    one count - mischief to property
    •    two counts - possession of stolen property obtained by crime under $5,000
    •    one count - possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000
    •    two counts - trafficking in stolen property under $5,000
    •    one count - trafficking in stolen property over $5,000

The accused was released with a future court date.

The South Simcoe Police Service wants to remind residents and businesses to mark their property. In the event of a theft, items can be more easily identified.

Be wary when buying items online. If the deals are too good to true, they usually are and the items could be stolen. Ask a lot of questions and properly inspect items before handing over your hard-earned money.
