Arrest made in 'Backpack Bandit' case

City police say the suspect, a 19-year-old Barrie man, was arrested Saturday without incident; he faces 10 charges

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 4:51 a.m., the Barrie Police Service responded to the Circle K Convenience Store located at 353 Duckworth St., after the store had been robbed.

A second robbery, that was carried out by the same suspect occurred at the Circle K Convenience Store located at 477 Grove St. E., on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 4:45 a.m.

The suspect, who was dubbed the 'backpack bandit', was arrested on Saturday, April 20, 2019 without incident, by members of the Barrie Police Investigative Services who had been conducting the ongoing investigation.

As a result, a 19-year-old male resident of Barrie has been charged with:

  • robbery with weapon (two counts)
  • administer noxious substance (two counts)
  • use disguise with intent (two counts)
  • assault with a weapon (two counts)
  • weapons dangerous (two counts)

The accused was held for a bail hearing and has been remanded into custody pending a future court date.
