Another armed robbery in Collingwood, this time at knifepoint

OPP investigators looking at possible link between two robberies of Collingwood businesses in recent weeks

Another armed robbery in Collingwood has police investigating the possibility of a single suspect for two robberies that have taken place in the last week.

The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP issued a news release Tuesday stating officers are investigating a robbery that took place March 1 at around 6:30 p.m. at an Ontario Street business.

According to the release, a masked male entered the store, brandished a knife, and demanded cash. The employee complied and the male fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash prior to police arrival.

Police say the suspect was a white man about six feet tall and wearing a thick white, hooded winter jacket, tan or grey pants, and white shoes. Police said a witness saw the suspect leave in a light-coloured 2010 to 2015 Ford extended cab pickup truck.

On Feb. 22, police reported a masked man robbed the Canco Gas Station on Hume Street around 7 p.m. In that case, the police report states the man brandished what appeared to be a firearm and demanded cash. Similar to last night's robbery, the cashier complied, and the man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In the Canco robbery, police said the suspect was a white man wearing a plaid jacket, black hoody, camo pants, and black boots. Police also released an image of a light-coloured pick-up truck linked to the suspect.

Asked whether or not the two robberies are connected, Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP Const. Martin Hachey said it's a possibility because of the proximity of the incidents.

"It's certainly something we're looking at," Hachey said. "It's not confirmed, but it is part of the investigation."

Both investigations are ongoing at this time under the direction of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP Crime Unit.
