An Angus man has been charged as part of a child sexual exploitation investigation.

Provincial police allege the man travelled to meet a young person for a sexual purpose.

The OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and Orillia OPP arrested Reuben Janes, 39. He has been charged with luring a child to facilitate the offence of sexual assault, and luring a child to facilitate the offence of sexual interference.

The accused had a bail hearing and was held in custody. He was scheduled to appear Friday in Barrie court.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

“It is imperative that parents have open and honest conversations with their children regarding who they are chatting with online as well as healthy relationships,” Acting Det.-Sgt. Brian Higgs of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit stated in a news release. “Take the time to talk and develop trust with your child. They are up against manipulative offenders online with bad intentions. Empower your kids now.”

Police ask anyone with information about online child exploitation to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca. Information can also be provided at cybertip.ca.
