9-1-1 call leads to abduction investigation

TAY TOWNSHIP - On Nov. 27, 2018 at 2:02 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police Southern Georgian Bay detachment were dispatched to investigate a 911 call after the OPP Communications Centre received the call from a female at a Bay Street, Tay Township residence.

Officers entered into an investigation after attending the Bay Street residence, as they were unable to locate the female caller. Officers on patrol located a vehicle that had left the residence prior to the arrival of police which was strategically followed in the Victoria Harbour area and requested assistance of the OPP Helicopter Unit and the OPP K-9 Unit to assist in the investigation.

Shortly after 4 p.m, officers arrested a male suspect at a Bourgeois Beach Road Tay Township residence without incident and the female victim was located safe at the same location.

With the investigative assistance of the OPP Central Region Crime Unit, a 55-year-old Tay Township man has been charged with the following offences:

  • Forcible confinement
  • Flight while pursued by peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Fail to comply with conditions of undertaking given by officer in charge

The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim and has been held in custody pending a show cause hear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie bail court on Nov. 28, 2018. Any future court appearances will be at the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland.
