4 youths arrested, replica gun, cannabis seized in Hwy. 400 takedown

Four 16-year-olds were arrested and a replica handgun and cannabis were seized following a high-risk takedown on Highway 400 near King Road yesterday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The OPP received a call from a concerned citizen who had observed a black handgun being pulled in and out of a backpack in a vehicle with four occupants travelling southbound on the highway, according to OPP Const. O. Ouwendyk of the Highway Safety Division on social media.

"Officers executed a rolling block and high-risk takedown," he said.

A search of the vehicle found the replica weapon and 100 grams of cannabis.

"This black handgun looks real and we treat it as such," he added. "We take these call very seriously."

The four youths were released to their parents, however, two are facing cannabis charges, according to the OPP.
