13-year-old, 21-year-old face charges after police find stolen goods in car

Barrie Police stopped a vehicle on Park Street, in the City of Barrie, after the licence plate on the vehicle returned unattached to a registered vehicle. Officers located an adult male driving and a male youth in the passenger seat.

The driver was under suspension and initial investigation revealed stolen property visible in the back seat of the car.  

Both males were arrested and further search found multiple break and enter tools, further stolen property and various controlled substances.

The 21-year-old Barrie male driver was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of break In instruments
  • Possession of a controlled substance- cannabis resin
  • Possession of a controlled substance- codeine pills

The investigation also involved various other Highway Traffic Offences and the male driver was charged with:

  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Driving while under suspension 
  • Owner-operate motor vehicle without insurance 
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner

The 13-year-old Barrie male passenger was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of break In instruments
  • Possession of a controlled substance- cannabis resin
  • Possession of a controlled substance- codeine pills
  • Possession of a controlled substance- methamphetamine

Both males were taken back the the Barrie Police Service with the car being towed and held by police during investigation. The males were released with a promise to appear court date and Undertaking with conditions to abide by in the mean time.
