Passed peacefully at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf in Barrie on February 15th, 2020 at the age of 83. Predeceased by her parents William Herbert and Nell (nee Fountain). Sister of Angus, Douglas (Loretta), Dennis (Evelyn), Ronald, Sarah Kathleen (Herman Bailey), Bernice Almeata (Michael Shabutura), Yvonne, Sally and Thomas (Shirley). Laura will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews who will always remember her sweet smile.
Laura was a graduate of the Ontario School for the Deaf, Belleville, Ontario. She resided in Oshawa for some time before moving to the Rideau Regional Centre in Smiths Falls, ON until its closure. She then resided at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf, Barrie, ON for the remainder of her life.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. A private family interment will follow at the Thornton Cemetery in Oshawa Ontario.
Laura’s family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere gratitude for the professional care and kindness she received from the staff at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf. They worked tirelessly to make her life the best it could be. Donations in Laura’s memory may be made to the Bob Rumball Foundation for the Deaf or the Canadian Mental Health Association.
