VALIQUETTE, Winifred (Villemaire, nee Longson)

In her 85th year, passed away with family at her side, Tuesday August 14 2018 at St. Catharines General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Winifred, better known as Win or Mrs. V, taught elementary school across central Ontario and Toronto before settling down in Barrie to raise her family. She returned to teaching in the 1960s, and became a beloved teacher at St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Separate School. After more than two decades of teaching, she struck out on a second career with husband Murray Valiquette, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where they owned and operated the Seneca Motel, on Lundy’s Lane. After almost two decades they retired in Niagara Falls. Predeceased by her father and mother, Wilfred and Elizabeth Longson, brothers Gerry and Bernard Longson, and husband Murray Valiquette. Missed dearly by her children and their families; Tom Villemaire and Sandra Richmond, Pete and Cindy Villemaire (Tim, Kaitlyn), Terry and Russ Ware (Sadie, Haley, Katie), Pat and Scott Schnare (Mitch, Logan) and Scott Weir and Ron Reaman. Also missed by sister-in-law and best friend Elsie Longson (Kim - Mom’s daughter-in-heart), her brother Murray and sister-in-law Edna Mae (Marlene, Kevin, Debbie), stepchildren Fran and Rick Slee (Jeff, Jim, Sean), Rob and Jane Valiquette (Steve, Sarah), Anne-Marie Valiquette Vallee (Jesse, Kathleen), Gord and Aileen Valiquette (Shawn, Taylor), Joe Valiquette (Amber, Joshua, Dylan), Martha and John Christopher (Jaden) and Richard Valiquette. Gma’s memory will be kept alive in her 17 great-grandchildren; Makayla, Jacob, Jordan, Blake, Layla, Damien, Brayden, Preston, Micheal, Tessa, Chloe, Asher, Hailey, Harvey, Dalton, Dean and Tyler. Our heartfelt thanks to the outstanding staff of the Emerald Retirement Residence in Niagara Falls, John (Owner), Jackie (Director of Care), the nurses and PSWs and the family of residents who welcomed and supported our entire family. Our deepest thanks to the compassionate staff of St.Catharines General Hospital from the ER to the Short Stay team to the 4th Floor Medical Unit. Thank you for your excellent care and for walking this difficult path with us. Special thanks to Kat Beasley for her loving care of our Mother. Cremation has taken place.
