It is with great sadness that the family of Spencer Douglas Thompson, announce his passing on April 23, 2017 at Royal Victoria Regional Hospital in Barrie at the age of 40. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife and “soulmate” of 16 years, Leigh (nee Vredeveld) and his two sons, Gregory and Severin. He will be tremendously missed by his parents, Dr. Doug and Valerie Thompson, sister, Stephanie (Chad) Schwartzentruber, brother, Regan (Goldie) Thompson, parents-in-law, Al and Karen Vredeveld, sister-in-law, Jen (Joe Ritz) Vredeveld and brother-in-law, Chris (Dana) Vredeveld. He was honoured to be the uncle of Russell, Colton, Penny and Ella. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Bob and Ivy Thompson and Russell and Lillian Purves, as well as by his aunts, Lorraine Kirchin and Susan Milne. Spencer had a “larger than life” personality and his fun-loving spirit will be missed by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. Spencer was a born salesman and he enjoyed his work as a salesperson and manager at Autohaus Barrie and Alliston Volkswagen.
Guests are welcome to visit at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minets Point Rd., Barrie, on Sunday, April 30 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A celebration of Spencer’s life will take place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 3294 St Paul's Cres, Barrie, on Monday, May 1 starting at 1 pm. with Rev. Debbie Dennis officiating. Visitation from 12 pm to 1 pm. A reception at the funeral home will follow after the service. As an expression of sympathy, donations to St. Paul’s Anglican Church or the Intensive Care Unit at Royal Victoria Regional Hospital are greatly appreciated and may be placed through the funeral home. Spencer’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff in the Intensive Care Unit at Royal Victoria Hospital for the exceptional care that he received.
