(January 12, 1932 - November 27, 2019) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of George on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 following a lengthy illness.
George was born and raised in Shanty Bay where he was an active member of his community. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, volunteering for many notable causes and puttering around his beloved farm. He dabbled in many vocations including CN Rail, OPP Auxilliary Police, founding member and eventual Chief of Shanty Bay Volunteer Fire Department, a self employed “Tree Surgeon” and home renovator, in addition to his long time position as a Forester at Ontario Hydro.
In 1953, he married the love of his life, Frances, who he met when both were working at Hydro. Together they shared many adventures in their 66 years of marriage.
He was also the adored father of son John (Lori) and daughter Tammy DeSousa (George), grandfather to Matthew (Sarah) and Chris DeSousa, Taylor and Jack Sutton, and great grandfather to Lucas, James and Landon DeSousa. Survived by his brothers Roy, Ross and Harvey (predeceased). Predeceased by his parents Cecil and Reta Sutton.
George has touched more lives than he will ever know and will be truly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 1:00-5:00 pm at the home of George and Frances, 6 Toronto Street, Barrie.
Donations may be made through Adams Funeral Home to the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County, Royal Victoria Hospital or a charity of your choice.
