In Loving Memory of Thomas Arthur Stiff

1922 – 2022

Thomas Arthur Stiff passed away peacefully at Woods Park Care Centre in Barrie on Monday April 18, 2022. “Art” was in his 100th year, missing his ‘big birthday’ by 4 weeks. Art was the devoted husband of Florence Stiff who passed away April 26, 2020.  They were married for 77 years.

Art was the loving father of son Tom Stiff of Collingwood and daughter-in-law Susan Stiff, daughter Mary Boddy of Barrie and son-in-law Frank Boddy. Art was grandfather to David Stiff, Douglas Stiff, Alison Smits, Laura Howell, Andrew Kuikman , Kaylee  Mascioloi , and Lexie Kuikman. Great grandfather to Alexis, Hunter, Emma, Lauren, Linden, Quinn and Adrian.

Art was born in Toronto. He was a WW2 fighter pilot veteran flying Hurricanes and Spitfires for the RCAF and RAF in England, a service for which he was very proud.

Art was a teacher in North York for 25 years and moved to Barrie in 1986 to retire. He was a scouting leader for 25 years. He was a member of the Masonic Order and Master of the Patterson Lodge #265 in Thornhill. He was a member of the Barrie Legion #147, a member of the Army Navy Airforce Vet club, and Member of the Barrie Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Art was a builder extraordinaire, and avid outdoors man who loved his cottage on Six Mile Lake in Muskoka since 1946. He lived a strong spiritual life.

Art was a proud Canadian who set an example of honesty, courage and high ideals. He was a loving family man, a true gentleman and friend to everyone.

Special thanks to everyone at Woods Park for their exceptional kindness and care the 7 years he and Florence lived on the retirement floor.

A Celebration of Life for Art and Florence will be held at a future date.

Although you have reached the end of your journey, you are still with us.

In memory/honour of Art Stiff, donations can be made to the Barrie Legion Branch 147 Poppy Fund at 410 St Vincent St, Barrie, L4M 4A6.
