(October 20, 1930 - November 26, 2018) - Past President of the Chamber of Commerce in Barrie and Cochrane; Barrie Alderman; United Way Campaign Chairman, Barrie; Past President of the Kiwanis Club Barrie; past Board Member of Ontario Chamber of Commerce; RVH Volunteer; sponsor of Cochrane baseball team. – Passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Sally for 64 years. Loved father of Edward Shirley (Arlene), Kevin Shirley, Gay Duncan (Scott), Daphne Shirley, Celeste Shirley, and Lori Shirley (Steve Harbourne). Cherished grandfather to Matthew Shirley, Blair Marchand (Rob), Jaime Mitchell (Paul), Corey Duncan, Jeremy Crooks, Desiree Crooks, Sarah Doiron, and great grandfather to Jace, Kane and Quinn. Survived by sister Frances and many nieces and nephews, predeceased by brothers John, Rusty, Peter and sisters Molly and Janet. Jim will also be missed by Jeremy and Desiree’s father Terry Crooks; Sally’s family; Marilyn (Garth), John and Bonnie (Frank). Bernie will miss her morning neck scratch! Friends and family will be received at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME 445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. A private family Service will be held. In lieu of flower donations to Barrie Kiwanis Club PO Box 442, Barrie, Ontario L4M 4T7 would be appreciated by the family.
