Ernie completed his earthly journey on July 27, 2019 and began his eternal journey. He is now with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for whom he lived and loved for over 90 years. Born in Toronto in 1928, Ernie was one of 10 children brought up during the Great Depression. A graduate of Toronto Bible College (now Tyndale), he pastored three Baptist churches: Glendale and Stanley Avenue in Hamilton, and Emmanuel in Barrie. He also enjoyed a variety of itinerant preaching engagements and served as keynote speaker at various youth and family conferences. He served as the Director of the Canadian Keswick Bible Conference in Port Carling for two years and as President of the Barrie & District Christmas Cheer organization for 27 years. He was recognized for his charitable work with the Rotary Paul Harris Award and as Citizen of the Year in Barrie in 1995. Time with family was cherished by Ernie. He is predeceased by his first wife, Marion (nee Slighte) who went to be with her Lord in 1976. He is also predeceased by his second wife, Carolyn (nee Cameron) who went to be with her Lord earlier this year. He will be forever remembered as the loving father of Barry (Cindy), Kevin (predeceased) (Vicki), Brad (Cathy), Eric (Leanne) and devoted Grandpa to his wonderful grandchildren: Savannah, Caite, Brook, Taylor, Ashley, Andrew, Jocelyn, Ali, Kyla and Lily. Ernie was also a man of many interests. Throughout his life he participated in a wide range of sports. In his early years he played ice hockey and baseball and was an avid golfer. He became a downhill skier in his 50's and continued to enjoy sports well into his 80's. He was a passionate Scrabble player and loved inventing and playing games with all his grandchildren. In 2004, Ernie wrote his memoirs, entitled, "Ernest: Man of Passion and Compassion." He wrote and published his second book "How I Triumphed Over Multiple Traumas" in his 88th year. A Celebration of Ernie's Life will be held on Tuesday, August 6th at 3 p.m. at Bethel Community Church (128 St. Vincent Street, Barrie). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Barrie & District Community Cheer or Innisfree Hospice in Kitchener.
