Donald James McReynolds passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Dagmar (née Cutler) for 61 years; father of Shawn (Elaine Kierans), Tracy (Bill Harper), Mike (Joanne) and James (Patricia Hancock); and grandfather of Andrew, Hilary, Jake, Nicole, Laura, Christina, Michelle, Michael and Daniel. He was born in Toronto on February 10, 1927, the son of the late John Galway McReynolds and Ada Beatrice (née Channon). He was predeceased by his sister Doris Giffin and is survived by his brother Jack. Don grew up in Toronto, attending Riverdale Collegiate; he graduated from the University of Toronto in 1949. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot and flew a wide variety of aircraft from various bases around Canada. While in the RCAF, he earned a B.Sc from Sir George Williams University (now Concordia) in Montreal and an M.Ed. from the University of Toronto. Following his military career, he had a second career teaching with the Public Service of Canada and at Georgian College in Barrie. A funeral will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 65 Amelia Street, in Barrie, Ontario.
