Michael Garry McCartney

It is with great sadness that the McCartney family announces that after a courageous 16-month battle with glioblastoma Michael (Mike) died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

Mike was predeceased by his loving wife Bonnie (nee Crawford), son Kenneth, nephew Ryan, great nephew Brennan, brother Jack and parents, John and Alma.

Mike leaves to mourn his devoted long-time companion, Janice Taylor. His children, Wendy (Michael) and Garry (Sara). His grandchildren, Dylan, Ronin and Meadow. Brother Rick (Brenda). brother-in-law Garfield (Doreen). Nieces and nephews, Shaun (Nancy), Chris (Holly), Melissa, Matthew (Lisa), Tina (Lance), David (Michelle). Great nieces and nephews, Hayden (Kait), Jacee (Megan), Marena, Julia, Mackenzie, Nicolas, Rebecca and Rachel. Janice’s children, Megan (Jared) and their child Zander, Jeff and Burton as well as many other loved ones across the country.

The family would like to express special thanks to Mike’s nephew Shaun McCartney and his wife Nancy for their tireless commitment in caring for him throughout his illness.Mike was so fortunate to have many wonderful people from the medical community taking care of him throughout and the family would like to particularly recognize his home care team of PSWS and nurses as well the valuable knowledge, care and support of his Doctor, Alexander Dickson and the entire team at Hospice Simcoe.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Monday, August 8th, 2022 from 6-8 pm. A service of remembrance and love will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, August 9th, 2022 at 11 am. A reception will follow inside the lower lounge. A private family interment will occur at the Midhurst Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Simcoe or your local food bank would be greatly appreciated by the family.
