Audrey, better known as “Nanny” to friends and family, passed away calmly in her sleep March 25, 2018 in her 98th year. She is now reunited with the love of her life, Alastair, whom she married in 1942. They had a wonderful life together for 39 years. Al passed in 1981, leaving Audrey as the matriarch of her loving family. She was very proud of her 5 children, her 10 grandchildren, and cherished her 4 great grandchildren.

Audrey and Al moved to Barrie in 1966 and immediately made the city their home. She was very active in the community and contributed greatly through her varied and extensive volunteer services, particularly The May Court Club of Barrie, of which she was a founding member. While Nanny was involved in many areas she was very proud to have been named the recipient of the Thomas Ambeau award for Community Service – Women in 1988 and to have received her 40-year service pin from RVH.

Never one to be limited by her age, Nanny was always beautifully dressed and ready to entertain. Some of her fondest memories were entertaining her loving friends and family at “Oaknowle” her beautiful home on the lake. Moreover, Nanny embraced technology and loved her iPad(s) to stay in touch with family and friends near and afar; whether a game of “words”, Instagram, a text or an email.

In recent years, Nanny was blessed with kindness and laughter from her special friend Louise, whom she loved like another daughter. Dr. Nancy Trimble also held a special place in her heart thanks to her extraordinary care and support. Nanny’s only regret was that she has not been able to wear her red high heels for the last few years. None the less, she danced at her granddaughter’s wedding September 2017.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the May Court Club of Barrie or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will occur in her favourite month on Sunday May 27th at 2pm at Kathie’s home.
