Jon Frank Alexander Macklem, in his 80th year, of Barrie, Ontario, passed away at home on Tuesday July 19, 2022 after a 6-month battle with cancer.
Jon was born on October 20, 1942, in York, ON, as the first of 6 children to Frank and Winnifred Macklem (of Market Square IGA). Jon was a long-time resident of Barrie, Ontario where he owned and operated a construction company building pools, installing and repairing heating and air conditioning, driving for PMCL and various transport trucks. Jon was a jack of all trades and was always willing to help anyone and everyone.
In 1967, Jon met Ann (nee Flear) in Orangeville, ON. Jon and Ann were married in Mono Mills, on September 14, 1968 and went on to have 3 children, Debbie (Craig) Knight, Derek and Katie. Jon was so proud of his grandchildren Jordan Travis, Kaden Prince and has now joined Alexandra Travis along with many other loved ones.
Jon was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Winnifred, brother Danny, sister Sally (Bob) Rodgers and granddaughter Alexandra. He is survived by sisters Janice (Dwight) Nelson and Susan (Mike) Oickle, brother David (Lynda) Macklem and brother-in-law Bob Rodgers along with many nieces and nephews.
Jon did everything with strength and determination from work, to sports, family and faith. He will be greatly missed by all his friends, family and community.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Church on August 6th at 1:30 pm followed by a social time at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Canadian Cancer Society, an organization Jon, Ann and family felt strongly about.
