He graduated from Oakwood Collegiate in 1959, subsequently received his BA from York University and M.A.Ed from Niagara University. Reay was a Mathematics and Science Teacher at Fairbank Senior Public School in the Township of York until his retirement, in 1994. Reay was acknowledged as a child prodigy at the age of 13, when he won his first of many professional piping competitions. He also won the North American Professional Solo Piping Championship, 6 times consecutively. Successfully led two top level competition bands, the 48th Highlanders of Canada and Metropolitan Toronto Police Pipe Band to many victories! Reay was also known as a world class adjudicator and travelled extensively. Reay received an Honorary Life Membership from the PPBSO, which he cherished immensely. Reay was a true musician and had a very deep passion for his music. He was a piper, accordionist, pianist, singer, composer and teacher. Reay’s passions extended beyond his music and included his family, boating, woodworking, hockey and to be a lifelong learner. A private family-only service will take place followed by a Celebration of Life event to be announced at a later date. He will be sadly missed but in our memories forever. Sláinte!
