In Loving Memory of Lorne Cameron MacDonald, December 6th, 1941 - April 24th, 2019. Beloved husband of Karen Ann (Ireland) MacDonald. Loving father of Laurel (David) Purghart, and Brodie (Stephanie). Cherished grandfather of Geoffrey, Erin, Connor, Keegan, Charlie, and Finnegan. Dear son of Rory and Edith MacDonald both predeceased. Beloved half-brother of Rhoda Hagan predeceased, and Ellen Clayton predeceased. Dear brother of Margaret Pollock (Ken predeceased), Jack (Jean) both predeceased, Mickey Sheppard (Bud) both predeceased, Jim, Ronald (Jackie) both predeceased, Marian Newstead (Bunny) both predeceased, Katie Kettlewell (Bill), Bud predeceased (Joan), Laurine MacQueen predeceased (Murray), Doris Frederik (Bob), Judith Grieve (John), Janice, and Allan predeceased (Linda). Brother-in-law of Joyce (Jim) both predeceased, Mary (Leo predeceased), Sandra (Howard), and Glen (Nancy). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Lorne was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. As a young man, he was actively involved with the Sea Cadets for five years during which he achieved provincial, national, and international awards. Following his time with the Sea Cadets, he spent eight years as an officer of Mountbatten Cadet Corp. As an adult, Lorne worked for 33 years for the Federal Public Service throughout the Province of Ontario. At retirement in 1998, he held the position of Director General of the Central and Northern Ontario Region with Human Resources Canada. After retirement, he volunteered and was extensively involved with the Georgian College Foundation Board. He was also Branch President for the Federal Retirees Association Huronia Branch. He was a volunteer for the Big Brothers Big Sisters School Mentoring program, as well as the Saint John’s Therapy Dog program with his faithful furry companion, Harry the Schnauzer. Lorne was an ardent reader, and enjoyed dog-sitting the dogs from his building. He loved his grandchildren tremendously, and was loved by many for his fun-loving attitude. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life gathering will be held at 37 Ellen Street (Kempenfelt Room) on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or the Saint John’s Therapy Dog program would be appreciated and can be made through the JENNETT FUNERAL & CREMATION CENTRE, 152 Bradford Street, in Barrie.
