Passed away on December 16, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of Janice for 65 years. Loving father of Wendy Fretz (Fred), Jane Ricks (Claude), Sandra Chalmers (John), Paul Laking (Anne), John Laking (Anita) and the late Susan Nickel (Bruce) and Ruth Laking. Dear grandfather of Kelsey (Andrew) & Brooke (Jason) Nickel, Jennifer (Corey) & Jamie Ricks, Kristin (Colin) & Kyle Chalmers, Alan Laking, Erin, Heidi, Taylor & Jordan. Brother of James Laking (Marina), Joan Winter (Earl) and the late Bill Laking. John “Bugsy” will be remembered by his family and friends as a master woodsman, expert builder of Inukshuks, and a friend to many cottagers on Gloucester Pool. Friends and family will be received at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME, 30 Worsley Street, on Tuesday December 19 from 7-9 p.m. and again on Wednesday December 20 from 9:30 am until the commencement of the Chapel service at 11:00am. Cremation has taken place. In memory of John, donations may be made to the Hospice Simcoe or to the MacLaren Art Centre.
