It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Kissick (nee Dyment). She passed away peacefully at Amica Barrie at the age of 89, with her beloved Ross Mullen by her side. Barbara grew up on High Street in Barrie attending Prince of Wales Public School and Barrie Central Collegiate, where she excelled in academics, sports, and music. She was the first female band president and valedictorian of her high school. She attended the University of Toronto where she received her diploma in physiotherapy, graduating in 1947 and made many lifelong friends. Barbara was a leader and a pioneer. She was the first female in the University of Toronto varsity band. Her career in physiotherapy took her from private clients, to clinics, to head of the physiotherapy department at Royal Victoria Hospital. Barbara was an avid golfer and curler, winning many club championships. Her love of music lead her to enjoy over 60 years playing the clarinet in the Barrie concert band. She will be deeply missed by her beloved soulmate Ross Mullen, daughter Sandi Mcfee (Bob), Sharon Ford (Wayne), and son Steven Smith (Vickie), as well as her grandchildren Corey, Kelly, Jaymie, Justin, Hayden, and Darrien. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, friends, sister Jane Yonge, and brother-in-law Jack Nixon. She was predeceased by her husbands Roy Smith and Ray Kissick. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Hospice Simcoe and Amica Barrie for all of Barbara's care and well-being during her end-of-life journey. Visitation will take place at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St. Barrie, on Wednesday February 15th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Visitation will also be held on Thursday February 16th starting at 12 noon followed by a celebration of Barbara’s life in the chapel starting at 1 pm. A time of fellowship and reception will follow. In memory of Barbara, donations may be made to Hospice Simcoe and are greatly appreciated. Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com.
