It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of my loving husband, the father of my children, Richard and Angela Kim and the Opa to his grandchildren, Tammy and Samantha. Walter died in his sleep at his home in the presence of his family, on Sunday, October 17, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Walter was born in Mainz, Germany, in 1938, and he arrived in Canada at a young age looking for a better life. He came equipped with the trade skills of a carpenter, very little money in his pocket, and a few English words; but with loads of enthusiasm, a great sense of humour, determination and courage.
Walter met his wife, Elke at a dance in Toronto and they have not been separated ever since, in fact they married six weeks later. Life had its challenges, but their hope prevailed and with hard work and determination, a good sense of humour, this generous country allowed them to find a place where they could raise their children and earn a decent living. There were many friends from the old country and the new friends they met in Canada that became their lifelong support system and together they shared Freud und Leid to this day.
Walter was a soccer fan and the sticker from the Soccer Club, Mainz, still decorates his car. His license plate proudly displayed the name of his birth city. He frequently visited family in Germany in recent years and welcomed family to their home in Bracebridge, and later in Barrie.
Many thanks go to the medical team that provided comfort through palliative care so that  Walter could stay in his home for his final days. With special gratitude to Dr. Lai from RVH, and Nurse Heather from Bayshore for all their dedication, empathy, and support. In addition, we give thanks to our friends, neighbours, and extended family for being there for us during these difficult times.
Walter left behind a legacy of love, laughter, support, and guidance for his family and friends.
We will miss him forever. Elke Jacobi and Family,

“Stay Jacobi Strong”
