It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joanne Carolyn Howard (nee Smith) at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with family by her side on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Joanne is predeceased by her loving husband Tom Howard, parents Gladys and Earl Smith, and by her in-laws Grace and Victor Howard. She was an amazing mother to Peter Holt, Erin Howard, and Ted Howard (Jenny). Cherished grandmother to Madison and Makenzie Holt, Tyler Lange, and Leila and Keenan Howard. Loving sister-in-law to Bill Howard (the late Georgina), Betty Gregory (the late Tom), Shirley King (Roy), and Doug Howard. Also loved by her nieces and nephews, Howie Howard, Monica Attwood, Matt Tremblay, Kristine Cameron, Lisa Lamarche, Jonathan and Sarah King, and Travis, Kyle and Nolan Howard.

Joanne was born on April 30, 1948 in Guelph Township, Wellington County and was adopted by her parents, Gladys and Earl Smith. They lived in Oakville before moving to Barrie, then to Dunchurch and back to the white house on the 9th line of Vespra. Joanne and Tom were married on June 22, 1974 and built a home on the Howard farm on the 10th line of Vespra where they farmed and Ted and Erin were born. They moved to Innisfil in the mid-80s and were longtime residents of Innisfil until Tom’s death in 2017.

Joanne will be missed by Sydney the cat, the Bowman and Howard families, and the many friends she had.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 20th from 5-7 p.m. at the Ivy Hall, 5085 20th Sideroad, Thornton, ON L0L 2N0.

Ontario protocols and directives will be followed, as put in place by provincial governing bodies and the Public Health Unit. Please note that wearing a facial covering and adhering to physical distancing directives is mandatory.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Bladder Cancer Canada, Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian LBD (Lewy Body Dementia) Research Fund, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
