HARASYMIW, Harry

Posted

Passed away peacefully on May 25, 2018 at precisely 12 noon with his wife Mae and eldest son Douglas at his side. Survived by Mae, sons Douglas, Ken and Donald, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Son of Mary and Daniel Harasymiw, the youngest of 9 children. Of all the family, he lived the longest.

He was hired on at CN Railroad at the age of 14 as a Call Boy and at 18, he transferred to Trainman, and later, Conductor. He retired after 42 years, the last 2 years working out of Mimico Yard. Since he was not an idle man,he went to work for H & R Black as a courier, set-up and take-down man for over 10 years. He loved to tease, to help everyone and no one was a stranger to him. He was active in the Lions Club, Legion and Salvation Army. He served on the Council in Hornepayne for 9 years, 4 of which as Reeve and was also Chairman of the Community Hospital for 7 years.

Harry and Mae loved, argued, shared, worked, laughed, cried, shouted, endured, wondered, travelled, teased together and even apart. They were inseparable for 64 years and 9 months.

Celebration will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 24 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario, on June 8, 2018. Visitation from 1-2pm. Service at 2pm, including Legion service. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Interment will be held in Hornepayne at 3pm at the Cemetery with reception following at St. Luke's Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hornepayne Royal Canadian Legion Br 194, Trinity Anglican Church, or SPCA would be greatly appreciated.
