Stewart's family sadly announces his passing on August 2, 2022, at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, the same hospital he was born in over 95 years ago to Herbert and Arnetta (Rahn) Fisher. Stewart is survived by his son Brian (Pauline), his daughter Sandra Demelo (Sam), his son Mark (Stacey), his grandchildren, Kevin McFadden, Dianne, Darryl, Katie and Jennifer, and his brother David (Carol).
Predeceased by his wife, Betty (King) in 2015 who was the love of his life and to whom he was married for over 67 years. Also predeceased by his daughter Cathy McFadden (and Brian), his son Brent, brother John (and Shirley), sister Mary Daub (and Gerth) and daughters-in-law Christine and Nancy.
Stewart attended King Edward Public School and graduated from Kitchener Collegiate Institute. He worked for Kaufman Rubber for 5 years before joining the Kitchener Police Force for 8 years. On January 1, 1958 he became Chief of Police for the Township of Innisfil. This was followed by a 30-year career in the sales department of DeVilbiss Manufacturing in Barrie. Stewart also had an active political career as Mayor of the Town of Innisfil, Warden of Simcoe County and Chairman of the Simcoe County School Board. Other contributions to his community include being President of the Barrie Probus Club, President of the Stroud Curling Club where he helped negotiate the inclusion of the club in the Stroud Complex in 1976, and faithful stewardship for more than 40 years of the St. James United Church Cemetery. Stewart was a member of the Barrie Country Club for over 40 years after which he played out his golf career at Big Cedar. Two of his proud and 'most boasting moments' were an eight-ender in curling and a hole-in-one in golf.
Stewart was extremely active in sports, coaching minor league baseball and hockey in Stroud. In his later years he was glued to the TV with a cable TV 'Sports Package' so he could watch his favorite Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Bruins and Green Bay Packers. One of Stewart's most proud moments was his family's contribution to the Stewart and Betty Fisher Family Community Room in the newly established Rizzardo Health and Wellness Centre in Innisfil.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Monday, August 8th, 2022, at St. James United Church in Innisfil, followed by a reception at the Stroud Curling Club. At the family's request, donations can be made to the St, James United Church, 2230 Victoria Street West, Innisfil, Ontario L8S 1K5.
