FISHER, Lorena Artilla (nee Sine)

Lorena was born in Hastings County on May 1, 1927 to Florence (nee Hagerman) and Cecil Sine. With her children at her side, Lorena died on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie, Ontario. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Fisher, and loving mother of John, and his partner Linda McCharles, and daughter Maria and son-in-law Stephen Reavie. She was the cherished grandmother of Emily and Glen Reavie. Lorena was predeceased by siblings Dorothy McNaught, Donald Sine, Evelyn Fox, Helen Baxter, Ralph Sine, and Margaret Rose Casselman. Lovingly remembered by brothers Lorne and Roy Sine, sister Vera Spratt, sister-in-law June Fisher, brother-in-law George Suttie, nieces and nephews. Over the years Lorena became the matriarch of her extended family. She will be greatly missed by her many friends. Lorena trained as a Registered Nurse at Belleville General Hospital and attended the University of Toronto to become a nursing instructor. She taught nursing at the Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing, Barrie and Georgian College leaving a legacy that is remembered to this day. Lorena received the Georgian College Faculty Award of Merit in 1985. An avid gardener, Lorena was recognized many times by Barrie’s Communities in Bloom. She was a devoted member of St. Giles’ Anglican Church. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at St. Giles’ Anglican Church, 95 Cook St., Barrie on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Special thanks to the healthcare professionals at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care, especially the Respiratory Inpatient Unit, Emergency, and Imaging Departments. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Giles’ Anglican Church, or Hospice Simcoe.
