Passed peacefully, with his family by his side, at Hospice Simcoe on August 18, 2017 at the age of 88. A proud member of the Ontario Provincial Police, Archie joined the force in 1951 to serve the province. He rose through the ranks and, in 1983, he was appointed Commissioner. Archie retired from the OPP in 1988 and took a position with the Ontario Jockey Club as vice-president of security until 1991. In 2009, Commissioner Fantino appointed Archie to the honorary office of Commissioner Emeritus of the Ontario Provincial Police. Beloved husband of the late Jean Heughan. Father to Heather (Walter), Pam (Rick), Martha (Stuart) and Hugh (Vallena). Proud grandfather of Jennifer, Katie (Cedric), Craig, Lucas (Wendy), Jacob (Melissa), Adam, Allison, Emily and Jack. Great grandfather to Noah, Ari and Deacon. Son of Archie Ferguson and May Street. Brother to the late Don, Anne and Betty. Survived by brothers Walter, Stan and families. Visitation will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Homes, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Tuesday, August 29th, 2017 from 11:30 am until the time of service in the Chapel at 1:30 pm, officiated by Ontario Provincial Police Chaplain Gerry McMillian. Following the service, guests are invited to remain for a reception in the Lounge. A private family interment at Walkerton Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Archie’s memory may be made to the RVH Cancer Care Centre, or Hospice Simcoe and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
