George-Barr-1504782906

(May 14, 1938 – September 4, 2017) - Born in Hamilton, George was the second of five children of George and Jane Barr. He acquired an eclectic mix of talents and used them well throughout his working life. He started his working career as a firefighter with the City of Hamilton, then moved to sales with the Campbell Soup Company. From there, he worked for many years in security with the Chrysler Corporation in Windsor. After he retired from Chrysler, he offered his maintenance skills to the NOVI School District in Redford, Michigan. George later returned to Canada, to Barrie, to be near his daughters and their families.

His engaging smile and refreshing sense of humour were often in evidence during get-togethers with family and close friends. He offered unfailing love, a sympathetic ear and insightful advice to his daughters and delighted in visits with his grandchildren. George also appreciated his own company, spending happy hours reading, playing cards and cheering on the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

For several years he travelled to Florida to escape Canadian winters. He met several good friends on these trips. He also took several trips with his brothers Sam and Dave. In more recent years, George found great peace at Gullwing Lake, enjoying the serenity and sounds of nature over the past several summers.

George is survived by daughter Toni Barr and her children, Benjamin, Brynn and Kylie; daughter Cheryl Anne Barr and her children Daniel and Brody; sister Kathryn (Don) Diubaldo of Windsor; sister Joan Brennan of North Sydney, N.S.; brother Dave (Wendy) Barr, Edmonton, Alberta and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Sam (and Mary Anne).

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please honour George with a donation in his name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, www.heartandstroke.ca or by calling the Foundation at 1-877-882-2582.
