Passed away peacefully after a brief illness with his family by his side at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, on Wednesday June 22nd, 2016.  Don Baldock, in his 88th year, was predeceased by his wife Gale in 2008.  He was an amazing father to his children, daughters Linda (Jim) Hyatt, Sue (Randall) Jackson, Karen Baldock (Geoff Waters), Diane (Jim) Porteous and son David (Nancy) Baldock. He has been a loving companion to Marg Ralph of Barrie for the last several years. He was adored by his grandchildren Caitlin (Jordan) Scaiff, Drew Baldock (Jenn Campbell), Matt Baldock (Melissa Key) and Riley Jackson and was known as GG (Great Grandad) to Peter and Henry Scaiff.  He is survived by his sister Barbara Hawthorne and brother Ken Baldock (Marilyn Saman), both from Port Hope, Ontario as well as brother-in-law Eric (Ruth) Fowler of Sydney B.C. Don had a long and honourable career with the Canadian Armed Forces. He was stationed in many cities in Canada – Trenton, Smith River (B.C), Aylmer, Portage la Prairie (Manitoba), Base Borden and Toronto. He was also part of Canada’s peace keeping mission in Vietnam. His proudest accomplishment was his promotion to Major. After retiring from the Air Force he started a new career working for the Ontario Government supporting apprenticeship training programs. Retiring from this second career allowed Don the time needed to volunteer at the Royal Victoria Hospital for 24 years.  He was also an active member of the Probus Club, Barrie Chapter, and over the years had added his wonderful voice to several choirs – Parkview Singers, King Edward Choir, Simcoe County Chorus (Barbershop Quartet) and Burton Avenue Church. Don was loved by all who met him and his ever smiling face will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, 445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie, Ontario on Monday July 4th. Visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service in the chapel at 2:00 p.m.. Business attire is not required. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by Don and his family. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family through adamsfuneralhome.ca.
