Canada wins silver at FIBA under-16 women's Americas championship

AYSEN, Chile — Avianna Thompson had 10 points as Canada fell to the United States 87-37 on Saturday in the final of the FIBA under-16 women's Americas championship.

The silver medal qualifies Canada for next year's under-17 women's basketball World Cup.

Fatima Diakhate and Lauren Audino had six points apiece for Canada, while Izabella Zingaro had six rebounds.

Payton Verhulst scored 18 points for the Americans.
