Canada bounced by Americans in U17 Basketball World Cup semifinal

SANTA FE, Argentina — Canada will have to settle for playing for a bronze medal at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup.

The Canadians suffered their first loss of the tournament on Saturday night, dropping a 120-71 decision against the United States in a semifinal.

Addison Patterson of Milton, Ont., led Canada with 15 points, the only player on his team to reach double figures.

Seven Americans hit double digits in scoring, with Jalen Roach scoring a game-high 25.

Canada will face Puerto Rico in the bronze-medal game on Sunday.

The Americans meet France for gold.
