Alberta has set a new record for its number of new COVID-19 cases for the third straight day.

The province announced 1,336 new cases on Saturday as well as nine new deaths.

Saturday also marks the third straight day that the number of new cases has surpassed 1,100.

Officials have previously said that the high caseload has overwhelmed contact tracing and strained the health-care system.

Along with three new cases in Whale Cove, and the recovery of two cases in Sanikiluaq, the total number of active cases in the territory stands at 107.

Premier Joe Savikataaq says in a statement that he knows the daily numbers in Nunavut seem scary, but he says it's not a reason to panic.

He says Nunavut will continue to see dips and rises for some time, and he says he's proud of people's efforts to slow the spread of the virus.

The territory has not recorded any deaths linked to the virus.

3:45 p.m.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says today's record number of new COVID-19 cases is "very concerning."

Public health officials are reporting 439 new cases, but no additional deaths.

Moe says in a statement that Saskatchewan's seven-day average for new cases is 203, which he says is the highest it's ever been.

He says while it's too soon for measures implemented last week to have made an impact, the government continues to "evaluate the situation closely and will consider further steps."

Manitoba is reporting 385 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 new deaths linked to the virus over the past day.

There are 276 people in hospital with COVID-19, with 45 of those in intensive care. So far, 217 people in Manitoba have died due to COVID-19.

Ontario has set a new single-day high for new COVID-19 cases in the province.

The latest figures show 1,588 new cases of the virus over the past 24 hours, along with 21 new deaths.

Today's numbers come a week after the previous one-day record of 1,581 cases set last Saturday.

Soaring case numbers prompted Premier Doug Ford to move the hot spots of Toronto and neighbouring Peel Region into the lockdown phase of the province's COVID-19 management strategy effective Monday.
