EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers have acquired forward Valentin Zykov off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 23-year-old native of St. Petersburg, Russia has appeared in 13 games for Carolina this season, posting three assists and a  plus-minus rating of minus-1. He has also appeared in six games with the American Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers, scoring two goals with 16 penalty minutes.

The six-foot, 220-pound forward has appeared in a total of 25 NHL games with Carolina, posting 11 points (four goals, seven assists), two penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating.

Zykov was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round, 37th overall, in the 2013 NHL draft. He led the AHL with 33 goals in 2017-18.

Internationally, he played for Russia at the 2014 world junior championship in Malmo, Sweden, winning a bronze medal.
