Students at two Barrie elementary schools filed into their auditoriums on Wednesday to learn about bicycle safety and to help mark the beginning of the 2017 Helmets on Kids program.

And thanks to a community-minded local lawyer and his law firm, hundreds of students across Simcoe County received new, safety certified bike helmets of their own.

Steve Rastin, Managing Partner of Rastin and Associates and Past President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, has joined forces with OTLA partners to donate thousands of helmets to school kids across Simcoe County who are in need of one.

In a recent five year study, the Ontario Ministry of Health reported that 93.75% of cyclists under the age of 18 who were killed in cycling accidents were not wearing helmets.

According to Rastin, “There is absolutely no reason for our children to be put at risk while riding bicycles in our communities. Helmets save lives and we are proud and pleased to do our part to help educate and protect students in the Simcoe County area.”
