This week, reporter Miriam King talks about her unusual entrance into the world of journalism. Living in the village of Cookstown in the early 1980s, Miriam had two kids, two university degrees... and no car. That’s when she met Gary Biesinger, editor of the Cookstown Advocate. And so began a decades-long career in news gathering.

Movies? Books? Cleaning? Maybe finally taking down the Christmas tree? Today we have a poll to find out what people are doing to keep busy and pass the time while stay-at-home orders are in effect in Ontario.

And if you missed it, here's what happened last week:

Reporter Bob Bruton talks about getting the COVID-19 vaccine once available and some of the questions he has. "I’m not really one for getting vaccinated," he writes. "I don’t get the annual flu shot, figuring a good diet, adequate exercise and seven hours of sleep a night will keep me healthy. The only vaccine I ever got was for H1N1, and that was because my then-teenaged son wouldn’t have got his shot had I begged off. But this coronavirus is different than the annual flu or H1N1."

Local health reporter Erika Engel shares her story about being home-schooled as a child. She would receive VHS tapes in the mail, filmed in a Florida classroom, even though they lived in Ontario. The tapes came in boxes delivered by UPS, and she had a few months to watch them and return them. She strongly points out that home-schooled kids certainly didn't have the "easy road," as many had suggested.
