The Georgian College athletic department is excited to welcome the addition of new men’s and women’s varsity golf head coach Bill Wogden.

Wogden, brings with him over 40 years of experience as a PGA golf professional with tremendous skills as a coach, leader and mentor for student-athletes both on and off the course. He also practices what he teaches as he continues to play in golf events to this day and is the winner of over 20 professional events in his career.

He is familiar face for the Grizzlies as he was the assistant coach with the golf team in the 2019-20 season. He played an instrumental role in the success of the women’s team that season, which earned a bronze medal at the provincial championships and a fourth-place finish at the national championships.

Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Wogden spent over 25 years as the Head Golf Professional locally at the Barrie Country Club where he played a key role in the development of the BCC Academy and other programs designed to help develop the skills of players of all levels of golf.

“I look forward to the challenge of coaching the Grizzlies and sharing my experiences with them to help make them better golfers,” said Wogden. “I also want to help our team stay on-track as student-athletes.”

“We want to make sure they have success both on the course and in the classroom. It’s a great mix and a great opportunity for me to give back to the golf community and the college.”

It’s a unique season for the Grizzlies golf team as they along with all OCAA sports will be playing with modified schedules this year due to the pandemic.

The team played in their one and only event prior to provincials this past Monday at the Durham College Open. It was a great start to the season as the Grizzlies men’s team finished the tournament in first place while Georgian’s Josh Taylor (Barrie) finished with the lowest score on the day to take the tournament’s individual title.

The Grizzlies play in the first of three rounds at the OCAA Championships beginning Sept. 20 through 23 at the Crimson Ridge Golf Course in Sault Ste. Marie.
