Special Olympics welcomes athletes back with alpine races

The Special Olympics athlete's oath is "let me win and if I cannot win let me be brave in the attempt."

After more than two years of no competition, Special Olympics Ontario is returning to the slopes with the Alpine Provincial Championships.

Hosted by Blue Mountain Resort and the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team, some 135 skiers from across Ontario will compete for a chance to represent the province, next year at the Nationals in Calgary.

Alpine teams from Barrie, Blue Mountains, Meaford/Thornbury, Ottawa, Mississauga, Newmarket, Toronto, York Region, North Bay, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Kitchener/Waterloo, Milton, Port Colborne and London will be competing in a two-run giant slalom race and a two-run slalom race, at glide, novice, intermediate and advanced levels.
