On Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019 representatives of the Barrie Soccer Club and the City of Barrie were present at Huronia North Park to dedicate new goal posts and signage that represent a significant partnership between the two.

As a part of a 50th anniversary project in 2018-2019 the Barrie Soccer Club approached the City of Barrie regarding upgrading goals at Huronia North Park to meet current Ontario Soccer, Long Term Player Development (LTPD) standards.

On discussion with City representative Rob Bell, Kevin Datema and Joe Breedon a proposal was struck that went to city council on Sept. 24, 2018. Due to weather delays and a variety of logistical concerns the project was delayed but completed in early September 2019.

The investment on the part of the Barrie Soccer Club included goals, nets and new signage amounting to $50,000 while the City contributed the labour to remove old posts and install all nine new sets of posts. A local supplier, Soccer Elite & Rugby Plus contributed by way of discounts and a three year financial commitment to the BSC.

New signage was designed and installed by Owen Signcraft in early September 2019 raising the profile and community awareness at the park at 311 Huronia Road in Barrie.

The Barrie Soccer Club is committed to partnerships that bring soccer to the broadest range of participants throughout the City of Barrie and Area. The Club’s membership is made up of participants aged from 3 to 45. The goal is to enjoy great soccer, make friends and have fun, while player and coaching development combine to make the Barrie Soccer Club programs a great success.
