BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats' quest for a sixth straight IBL title started with a 12-2 win over Brantford in Game 1 of their quarter-final series Thursday night at Coates Stadium.

Conner Morro went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBI. Ryan Spataro had two hits, two runs and an RBI, Starlin Rodriguez scored twice and drove in a run, Jordan Castaldo had two runs and two RBI, Kevin Atkinson singled twice and scored twice with an RBI, Kyle DeGrace went 2-for-5 with two RBI, Glenn Jackson added a pair of hits and a run, and Branfy Infante and Jeff Cowan both scored. 

Emilis Guerrero (1-0) allowed one run on two hits over seven innings. He walked two and struck out four. 

Abel De Los Santos (0-1) took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits with a walk and five strikeouts in six innings. 

Offensively, Nic Burdett and Chris Iltshishin drove in Brantford's runs. Doug Parks had two of Brantford's four hits. 

Jackfish take 2-0 series lead 

WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish took advantage of home field with a pair of wins over the London Majors.

Thursday's 11-3 victory gave the Jackfish a 2-0 quarter-final lead before the series shifts to London for two games. 

Brendon Dadson and Nolan Pettipiece each collected two hits and three RBI. Mattingly Romanin went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run, Brandon Nicholson and Bryce O'Farrell each had a hit and a run, Vaughn Bryan singled twice and scored, DeAndre Asbury-Heath picked up three hits and two runs, Andrew Mercier had an RBI, and Wilson Soriano drove in a run and scored twice.

Matthew Clingersmith (1-0) went eight innings, giving up three runs on 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

For London, Yuki Yasuda went 2-for-4 with two steals, an RBI and a run. Ismael Pena had two hits, an RBI and a run, Mike Ambrose drove in a run, and Josh Williams singled twice.

Owen Boon (0-1) took the loss, surrendering nine runs on 10 hits with four walks and a strikeout in 4.2 innings. 

Borroto leads Panthers past Leafs 

KITCHENER – Yorbis Borroto drove in four runs to lead the Kitchener Panthers to an 8-4 come-from-behind win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 1 of their best-of-seven quarter-final Thursday night at Jack Couch Park. 

Borroto went 3-for-3 and scored twice as Kitchener, which trailed 3-2, scored twice in the seventh and four times in the eighth. Liam Wilson singled twice and drove in two, while Mike Andrulis and Andy Leader each plated a pair of runs. 

Mike Schnurr (1-0) earned the win, allowing a run on two hits in an inning of relief. Starter Yoennis Yera lasted six innings, giving up three runs on four hits with five walks and nine strikeouts.

For Toronto, Justin Marra drove in two with a double and home run. Cooper Lamb singled twice and had an RBI, Zac Orchard had a pair of hits and a run, and Marcus Knecht added an RBI and scored.

Alberto Tirado (0-1) went six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with five walks and 12 strikeouts.
