McGarry-Doyle's homer propels Baycats to victory in ninth inning

With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Noel McGarry-Doyle hit a two-run home run to lead the Barrie Baycats a 8-7 win over the Guelph Royals Saturday in Intercounty Baseball League action.

The Baycats had to play catch up most of the game, scoring four runs in the sixth inning after trailing by two. And then they did it again, scoring two in the seventh and two in the ninth after the Royals responded with four of their own in the sixth inning.

Adam Odd had three RBI thanks to a pair of singles.

Ethan Hammond led the Royals offence after his double cashed in three runs in the sixth inning.

Brandon Hillier got the win on the mound for the Baycats. Kyle Thomas took the loss. Starter Sandy Baez pitched five innings and gave up three runs on five hits.

The Baycats improve to 4-3 and are back in action Sunday, when they visit the Kitchener Panthers at 2 p.m. 

Jackfish edge Majors in a wild one

The Welland Jackfish put on a show, edging the London Majors 12-11 Saturday during Intercounty Baseball League action.

Hogan Brown’s fielder’s choice scored Luis Jean in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Jackfish a lead they wouldn’t give up.

After the Majors scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, the Jackfish pounded out five runs on eight hits to take the lead. They added one run in the fifth inning, three in the sixth and two more in the seventh during the momentum seesaw.

Brown also added two more RBI after a double in the first inning. James Smibert, Sam Cawker, and Ethan Hunt each had two RBI for the Jackfish.

Cleveland Brownlee led the Majors offence thanks to his two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored. Mike Mueller earned the win on the mound, while Pedro De Los Santos took the loss.

The Jackfish improves to 5-2 and get back to action Sunday when they visit the Brantford Red Sox at 2 p.m. The Majors are now 4-4 and will host the Kitchener Panthers Friday at 7:35 p.m.
