Leafs blow past Baycats with late-innings surge, snapping four-game win streak

Six straight runs in the late innings lifted the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 10-8 win over the visiting Barrie Baycats, Wednesday night at Christie Pits.

Trailing 8-4, the Leafs scored five in the seventh to take their first lead of the game, then added another run in the eighth.

Justin Marra hit two home runs, including a two-run shot to kick-start Toronto's seventh-inning rally. The Leafs' catcher added a solo home run in the eighth  his ninth long ball of the season  and finished with three hits. Marcus Knecht also homered with a runner aboard, while Johnathan Solazzo, Damon Topolie and Chandler McLaren all drove in a run.

Former Baycat Jordan Castaldo walked three times and scored twice atop the lineup.

Adam Marra (1-1) struck out one in a hitless seventh to earn the win. Mateos Kekatos recorded the last six outs, striking out three while walking two and giving up a hit, to earn his first save. Brandon Lyons started and went two innings, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks.

Jake Wilson went 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run for Barrie, which had its four-game win streak snapped. Branfy Infante singled, homered and scored twice, Royce Ando singled twice and had two RBI, Mike Cecchetto went 2-for-4 with two runs and Ryan Rijo and Owen Jansen each singled and drove in a run.

Chris Cox (0-1) was tagged for four runs (one earned) on three hits over two innings to take the loss. He walked two and struck out two. Starter Marshall Leishman lasted five innings, yielding three earned runs on five hits, walking four and striking out three.

Third-place Toronto improved to 10-9, while fifth-place Barrie fell to 10-11.
