Late runs help Baycats to second consecutive win

The team also snapped Welland's three-game winning streak in the process

WELLAND-The Barrie Baycats snapped Welland’s three game win streak with a 6-5 win Saturday afternoon in Welland. Barrie, 8-10, is now tied with Hamilton for fifth place. Welland, 9-10, is in fourth place.

The Baycats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Jake Wilson had three hits to lead Barrie’s 12-hit attack while Owen Jansen and James Anderson each added two hits. Barrie scored the winning run in the seventh inning on a triple by Mike Duwyn who then scored on Jansen’s sacrifice fly.

Matt Hilderbrandt’s two run home run in the second inning reduced the Baycats lead to 4-2 before Griffin Keller’s solo home run in the sixth cut the Baycats lead again to 5-3. Keller also added a single to lead the Jackfish with two hits.

Baycats’ reliever Brad Grieveson (3-2) picked up the win, giving up only one hit in 2 1/3 innings. He struckout two. Welland reliever Robert Mackie (0-1), the third of four Jackfish pitchers, took the loss. He gave up two unearned runs in the seventh on four hits and one walk in 2 1/3 innings.
