Kodiaks on steady pace to reach sectionals

Georgian Kodiak bowling team sits at 39th place in a 184-school field

The Georgian Kodiaks bowling team finished in second place at the Maple Classic Oct. 27. After the completion of eight baker games, the bowlers were left in the dark. An unexpected power outage in Western New York left the bowlers without power after game eight. 

Power was out for close to three hours resulting in the tournament ending after an hour wait. The Kodiaks had a slow start in the six games of team competition on Saturday. After averaging just over 179 through the team event, they finished the day in second, 281 pins behind RIT.

Baker competition on Sunday was a different story for the Kodiaks as they managed to gain pins on the leader. After eight games with eight to go, the Kodiaks gained 84 pins but succumbed to the power outage to finish their second tournament in second place.

Individually, Joshua Bautista led the Kodiaks with a six-game total of 1,220 (203.3 average) and finished first in the field of 71 players. Joshua Woolley totalled 1,111 (185.1 average) to finish seventh followed by Will Lyon in 11th, Madisyn Lyon in 23rd, Jakob Wiskowski in 31st and Zek Ardizzon in 39th.

A week later, at the Penn State Classic, the Kodiaks bowled solidly posting games of 964-1043-988-1037-984-1056 Saturday. Robert Morris dominated the field throughout the day holding first over the Kodiaks by 228 pins day one.

Baker competition the Kodiaks matched up well. They gained 78 pins on the leader, but not enough to take the victory, holding second, their third second-place finish.

In the men's field of 70, Joshua Bautista was the top Kodiak in second place with a total of 1,332 (222 average). Will Lyon took 4th with 1,296 (216 average), Josh Woolley finished 12th with 1,180 (196.66 average), Jakob Wiskowski in 14th with 1,176 (196) and Madisyn Lyon 26th with 1,088 (181.3).

In other action, the Tiger Cup hosted by RIT was held Nov 16-17 in Rochester New York.

Day one of the team events, the Kodiaks posted steady games of 976-967-870-906-965 with a 4684 and a 76-pin lead over second. Day two and baker round, the Kodiaks had a lead after the first two sets, but RIT pulled away late bowling one of the best sets of the day. A struggle the last set, the Kodiaks slipped to second earning their fourth second-place finish of the season.

Capturing his third All-Tournament Team with a 202.8 average, in third place Joshua Bautista. Joshua Woolley placed ninth, Will Lyon 17th, Jakob Wiskowski 43rd, Madisyn Lyon 50th and Zek Ardizzon 63rd.

Out of 184 schools, the Kodiaks are sitting 39th and are on a steady pace to reaching their goal of making sectionals. Our rookies are performing well with Will Lyon 37th, averaging 194 and Joshua Woolley in 112th (182.217 average) out of 366 student-athletes. Captain, Joshua Bautista is moving up the top players board sitting 31st with a 208.76 average out of 500 student-athletes listed.
