Panthers move into first after beating Baycats

BARRIE – The Kitchener Panthers added to the Barrie Baycats' misery and took over first place with an 11-5 win Thursday night at Coates Stadium. 

Mike Andrulis went 4-for-5 and had two RBI and scored twice as the Panthers improved to 16-5. Kitchener holds a one-game lead over Barrie (15-6), which dropped its third straight. 

Andy Leader and Yorbis Borroto each had two hits, two RBI and combined to score three times. Jeff Hunt and Zarley Cina both drove in a run, Zach Johnson singled, doubled and scored three runs, and Keegan Marsden also scored a trio of runs. 

Yoennis Yera (4-1) picked up the win, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. He walked three and struck out eight. 

For Barrie, Conner Morro had three hits and fell a triple short of the cycle. Morro drove in a run and scored three times. Starlin Rodriguez singled, tripled and added an RBI and a run, while Kyle DeGrace, Steve Lewis and Jeff Cowan each picked up an RBI.

Emilis Guerrero (4-1) took the loss, surrendering five runs (two earned) on nine hits in six innings. 

Late runs help Jackfish in win 

WELLAND – Five eighth-inning runs helped the Welland Jackfish beat the Hamilton Cardinals 13-8 Thursday night. 

Welland led by one before pulling away in the eighth and have now won three straight and seven of 10. 

Brendon Dadson had two hits and drove in a pair while scoring twice for the Jackfish (12-9).

Mattingly Romanin had three hits and three runs, Vaughn Bryan and Wilson Soriano each drove in a pair, and DeAndre Asbury-Heath and Caleb Feuerstake added an RBI apiece. 

Casey Bouillere-Howard (1-2) picked up the win in relief, giving up a run on two hits in two innings. He walked one and struck out one. 

Matthew Clingersmith started and went five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. 

Kelvin Pichardo (1-2) took the loss, giving up five runs on two hits and two walks in an inning. 
Starter Zackary Gonzalez went five innings and surrendered seven runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. 
Offensively, Grant Arnold drove in four on a pair of hits, while Justin Gideon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Jake Chiaravalle, Connor Bowie and Jon Dziomba all scored twice, with Dziomba adding three steals. Jacob Martins and Clay Miller each had a single and double. 
Hamilton dropped to 9-11.
