Georgian Grizzlies golfers played in their first tournament of the season on Monday as they took part in the DC Open hosted by Durham College at the Lakeridge Links Golf Club in Whitby.

It was a tremendous Grizzlies debut for Josh Taylor (Barrie), who finished the tournament with the best score of the day posting a round of 73 to win the men’s individual title by two strokes.

Georgian teammates and brothers Christian and Noah Leduc, of Innisfil, both posted matching rounds of 76 to finish in a five-way tie for third place individually on the day.

As a team, the Grizzlies finished the event with a combined score of 307 to take the team title as well.

This was the Grizzlies' first tournament since October 2019, after last season was cancelled due to the pandemic.

With this year’s modified Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) schedule, the Grizzlies next event will be the 2021 OCAA Golf Championships hosted by Sault College, which begins Monday, Sept. 20 at the Crimson Ridge Golf Course in Sault Ste. Marie.

The championships will feature three rounds of play from Sept. 20-22 with the top teams playing for a shot at competing at the 2021 CCAA Golf National Championships, which take place Oct. 11-15 hosted by St. Clair College in Windsor.
